This has been a gut-wrenching week to see so many #techlayoffs. I’d like to also shed light on the emotional scar from past job losses impacting professionals across other industries, often from lesser known companies. I recognize you may feel overshadowed and feel the competition for the job looming.

After many several chats with those impacted by these economic headwinds, my heart goes out to everyone because any job loss is a loss.

That said, my ♥️ has been full seeing so much support and help across my network. One of which is an incredibly thoughtful email from the #futuresocial part of #marketingbrew newsletter by Jack Appleby “☕ How to find jobs via social media after a lay-off”

📣 I’d like to echo four insights that may help others find their #nextplay

1. 💅🏻 Polish your Linkedin and make it represent YOU ✨

I’m a firm believer in the power of #Linkedin and its ability to manifest opportunities (speaking for myself). Truly magical.

At minimum, refine your Job Experience. For each role, list:
- An explanation of your role
- An example of a project you’re proud of
- Data results from your role + the project

As Jack Appleby mentions, “You’ve gotta be brief on a résumé, but you get to wax poetic on LinkedIn”

2. ✅ Commit to being #OpenToWork

I’m seeing a slow shift of professionals embracing the #OpenToWork and notifying their network that they have been #laidoff which has been so inspiring to see. Vulnerability is the ultimate sign of #strength. I applaud those who are challenging this stigma that it’s not okay to share publicly when you’re let go but we’re flipping the script. Sharing means you’re #opentopportunities — the truest position of power.

I highly recommend you use Linkedin’s feature to update #OpenToWork profile photo to increase your chances of finding work and make meaningful connections.

3. 📣 Vocalize what you want and keep it simple

Linkedin makes it easy for you to hone in on your voice. People want to help but how do you articulate your story? What’s your ask?

At the end of the day, most people are trying to:
- Tell your connections you’re available for hire
- Share your work experience
- Clearly articulate what type of jobs you’re looking for
- Do so in the most shareable way possible

Accomplish all four in a tweetable update or a more detailed story as a Linkedin post. You can get away with either on Linkedin. Just do it!

4. 🫶 Foster true connection

The only way to build a relationship is to form a connection. Go out there and connect with someone, be it a DM, a connection request or follow. At our core, we all want to connect and help.

Good luck everyone. If you’re in a tough spot, please let me know how I can help. Please trust that there is 🌈 🔆 at the end of the tunnel.
